4 Stars Feeling Blu About Indy
I will start off by saying that I was disappointed in this film when I first saw it in the theater. Although I was still bothered by a lot of the same things – the sets, that awful snake – I found that I enjoyed the movie much more the second time around, watching it a home. It was a high standard to match after such a long time had passed. There is everything that I loved about the previous Indiana Jones films. Some fans may be bothered by the passing of the hat – figuratively, thank goodness and others may find the science fiction nature of the plot to be a bit off kilter. Still and all, its a fun ride if you just let yourself go and enjoy it. The Blu Ray version has a stunning picture and sound, no complaints there.
3 Stars Crystal Skull OK but not great.
I am a huge Indiana Jones fan and really looked forward to seeing this movie. It was a bit of a disappointment but probably because I am comparing it to the original trilogy movies(which were all much better). It was entertaining…. just don’t expect too much.
5 Stars Excellent Movie
Great movie, done in yet the same style as all of the rest of the Jones movies, well worth getting on blue-ray.
5 Stars Wonderful!
I’ve always loved the biblical story of Joseph. This adaptation was very well written, masterfully acted and intriguing. Well done!
5 Stars Indiana Jones and the crystal skull…
Never saw this in the theaters, so I waited to buy the blu-ray. Awesome movie and in highdef.
The end of the movie is pretty much a “no way in hell” and some of the action scenes follow that same logic… but come on.. it’s INDY and it’s been 18yrs or so since the last movie when that was supposed to be the last crusade. This movie does have that feel of the old movies in it, which I was glad it did. It was nicely filmed and the plot was nicely done.
I’m not a huge fan of Shia, and the crystal skull logic was a tad off.. The myth about the skulls wasn’t about aliens and it being their actual heads, the real crystal skulls in the world are that of human shapes.
But.. rumor has it an Indy 5 is coming and will be the actual final movie of the series. Just hope it has some of the nostalgia of the series as this one did.
The Hunt for Red October Blu ray
The Hunt for Red October Blu ray

Widescreen/Blu-Ray. PG rating. Hunt For Red October. A contemplative thriller by early 1990’s standards, The Hunt For Red October was the first movie based on the successful Jack Ryan novels of Tom Clancy. Hunt for Red October stars Alec Baldwin as eccentric CIA analyst Ryan and Sean Connery as Soviet submarine commander Marko Ramius. In the movie, Ramius sets the plot in motion when he murders his political adviser, burns his orders, and steers his sub Red October towards American waters, hoping to defect Robbed of much of the book’s Cold War appeal by the time of its release, the movie was nonetheless embraced by American audiences; it was among the ten highest-grossing movies of 1990.

4 Stars Great movie
This is a very good Sean Connery movie. The story, cast, film-making are wonderful. The only little disapointment would be the image quality: not as good as I thought what it should be as a blu-ray version. However, it is still a very good movie that you cannot miss.
3 Stars cold war fantasy
Some punk junkie named Sick Boy in the the Danny Boyle cult classic TRAINSPOTTING espouses a “theory” of his in which he uses the career of Sean Connery to illustrate. Basically he believes that for everybody in life at one point you got it, then you don’t. There’s a period in your life, probably when you were younger, when you could have had *it* but then you loose *it* and are past your prime. Well, the other character listening to this was right to feel unimpressed by this cocky punk’s disrespectful and plainly dumb understanding of human accomplishment. Sean Connery was the original and coolest James Bond but it was not all downhill from those glory days. Connery’s performance THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER disproves Sick Boy’s theory (along with a few others in his career btw). Alec Baldwin is also good, his take on CIA agent Jack Ryan much more compelling than Harrison Ford’s or Ben Affleck’s. Ford looks old. Affleck looks like Affleck. There are a few famous faces that grace the screen in this one: Darth Vader’s voice, a Senator and 2008 presidential candidate. The ocean and ships sort of steal the show in these things though when you think about it. The ocean looks great on the silver screen, or your TV for that matter. The story is the fantastical stuff of nerdy military loving, rightwing Cold War warriors’ sweaty dreams. I think Tom Clancy books are a dime a dozen but they got at least one decent escapist flick out of ‘em. This is the most cinematic and well made Jack Ryan film.
5 Stars Blu-ray movie review
Having already had Hunt for Red October on tape and DVD, it was totally necessary to get this Blu-Ray DVD!!! (Also have all of Clancy’s books in hardcover, and would pay a King’s Ransom for ALL of his movies to be FAITHFULLY made into block-buster movies and put onto Blu-Ray!) We loved the increased definition–but mostly the SOUND! So good was the sound, that we got a soundtrack CD–also from Amazon! This story follows Clancy’s actual writing more closely than the other films based on his novels. (Particularly “bad” is the latest, Sum of all Fears! Absolutely PC-ized version of a story!) Very interesting, and a great film that the entire family can view, but, with three scenes of “dispatching a character via firearm,” maybe the very youngest should be shielded from watching. Absolutely NO “gender interaction,” so no explanation of “birds and bees” is necessary, and finally, ALL the roles are played by superb character actors. I prefer Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan (more age and “gravitas”) but Baldwin does a credible job here. A movie for the entire family to delight and be thrilled with! And Blu-ray only makes it better, especially in surround sound!
5 Stars Always great
This one’s a keeper. I purchased it in Blu-ray after seeing it a dozen times in standard definition. Sean’s second best movie next only to The Rock. Just the right mix of action and suspense.

2 Stars Production Problem: First Disc is a 2nd Copy of the Workprint
I am one of the unlucky shoppers who got a “misprint”. Disc one which should be the final cut is in fact a 2nd copy of disc 5, the “workprint”. Based on some reviews of the final cut maybe I’m not missing much, but it’s annoying to have to exchange this. I knew there was a problem when I put in disc one and it looked lousy in hi-def. There is a separate disc with the US and international release versions along with the director’s cut, which are all much better quality.
1 Star How to get the correct disc for your Blu-Ray set
I bought this set from Amazon on January 1, 2009. Like other reviewers I too received a duplicate disc, the “work print” content on both discs 1 and 5.
Just contact the Warner service hotline at: 1-800-553-6937. The operator I talked to was very helpful and fully aware of the problem. She took down my information to send me the correct disc 1 when they become available. She said currently they are waiting on more to be printed and it will take at least 3-4 weeks before they are available.
*FYI, I rated this item one star to get the attention of folks who are having the same problem.
5 Stars The comprehensive Blade Runner
At last a package with all the blade runner editions. I was looking for the theatrical version in DVD for six years. I watched the theatrical version in VHS in early’s 90’s and wanted to watch it again. I had the director cut in DVD also but this package has all the editions I know about this movie. I liked a lot the final cut and it was very nice to see the theatrical edition again.
Now, Blade Runner is one of the best science fiction movies ever, so if you still don’t have it, this is the package you should choose.
4 Stars An unsurpassed classic
A great concept, fantastic film full of atmosphere. The music, direction, acting and effects are captivating. It only (or will be) dated by its Los Angeles 2019 tag. This edition is restored and corrected in parts which do not detract from the film.
Often imitated but so far unsurpassed. A real cinematic experience and a must see.
5 Stars Slick, luminous and worth every penny
***This review covers the Blu-Ray set***
THE FILM
A somewhat loose adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s short story, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is a half detective story, half sci-fi film.
Blade Runner was probably one of the most expensive experimental films of all time. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, coming from a photographer, those words cary a good deal of meaning. While as a story or even some of the performances, dont always fire on all cylinders, there is a certain mystery and powerful visual majesty to fill any lapses in dramatic pitch.
Ridley Scott cut his teeth as a filmmaker on commercials and watching Jordan Cornenweth’s powerful cinematography, one definitely feels Blade Runner is a sort of commercial. For what, we just don’t know. Sure there are meditations on humanity, inevitability and choice, but there isn’t a real cohesive exploration or dialogue on any of these subjects. I think this ambiguity is probably the main reason Blade Runner has been such an enduring journey. For sure, there are genuinely tender, magical and powerful moments to the film. In short, Blade Runner is what it is. It is a film that the viewer takes home what they bring to it.
THE QUALITY
I have owned several DVD and VHS releases of the movie through the years as many others and much like 2001: A Space Odyssey, this Blu-Ray release provs how lucky we are to have High Def. On my 42″ plasma, the film is rapturous. The shafts of light and the blue hues really make you feel as if your peering into the world before you. The blues are deep and the contrast is strong.
There is grain and some missed focus, but the challenges the crew must have had shooting Panavision anamorphic in those days with such little light at times must have been a real challenge for the focus pullers. If anything, on the grain, it only enhances the film’s gritty feel. Neither of these small observations have any real impact on the picture’s quality or overall sharpness.
Having upgraded to High-Def relatively recently, I have the same set for DVD and going back and fourth, there are some scenes that show a real hike in quality and detail. This is one of those films where you watch it and aren’t always conscious of the difference between HD and SD UNTIL you go back and watch the SD. You really find it is impossible to go back. I’m glad I made the purchase.
CONCLUSION
Like most great films, Blade Runner is not for everybody. It is a supreme exercise in production and photography over drama, but that hasn’t made the film any less powerful. It was worth every penny to pick this up and it is easily one of the best releases you can get on HD right now.
