3 Stars Madagascar
Actually, the second in this series is better than the first although this one sets the story line.

5 Stars Madagascar was wonderful and it was delilghtful.
I enjoyed this film very much. It is a pleasure to have verbiage that is not offensive to anyone and employs comedy with thoughtful circumstances.

5 Stars so funny
i saw this a few years ago and still remember how funny it was. great movie for kids and adults.

5 Stars favorite DVD
My toddler son loves this movie and will watch it over and over again. It’s still his favorite DVD and worth the money to keep him happily entertained.

4 Stars Great fun, awesome BluRay
If you – like me – enjoy a good cartoon, this is one to watch. It’s not only funny and enjoyable, it’s flat our hilarious. The comedy is very well timed and not to dirty.

I can’t wait to get the sequel.

4 Stars Extreme gore with a serious political point
I was shocked by how much I appreciated this movie. Yes, it is extremely, but not excessively gory. The blu-ray version makes the violence even more real. The point of the violence is to show what people in Burma face every day – this isn’t overblown, this is a fictional story of real everyday occurrences. The supplements in the film point out that the Burma military government is afraid of the movie and will kill or imprison for life anyone who sells the film in Burma, or will imprison anyone for 10 years who watches the film. They also point out that 1/2 of their national budget is used for weapons – and those weapons are only used against their own people. Rambo does a great job showing the West and rest of the world what innocent men, women, and children are going through in Burma.

5 Stars Excellent DVD in excellent condition.
The DVD was delivered in a timely manner as promised and in the new/excellent condition as advertised. That is all a customer asks for. Thank you.

4 Stars Excellent Addition to the Series
Despite what you may have heard, John Rambo is still very much alive. He’s battle worn, sick of the world, and “retired” in a village deep in Thailand where he catches snakes, fishes, and sleeps fitful nights. He probably would have lived out his days this way and quietly died years from now with us never hearing from him had not a group of missionaries from Colorado decided that they would go into the worst area of Burma on a humanitarian mission, or had Rambo been able to talk them out of it. But that didn’t happen…

And with that set-up, John Rambo is back. I won’t recant the plot anymore, suffice to say there is incredible action in this film, just amazing, and if you are like the rest of the population, and Rambo is your kind of American hero, you’ll follow his every move.

Sylvester Stallone gets some big props here for several reasons. Though you can pretty much guess what’s going to happen, it doesn’t matter. There are enough surprises, and each individual scene will keep you in your seat. Sly also gets credit for reminding us when he steps up, he can act pretty well. Despite at times being the killing machine you might expect, he does a very good job of the war torn Rambo, and allowing him to be a complex character. The film is also very nice looking, with terrific sound and visual effects, and Brian Tyler’s score pays good homage to the late Jerry Goldsmith.

There are a few things I had a hard time with though. For taking a step and reminding the world that the regime in Burma (Myanmar) is an oppressive dictatorship, the film may have missed out on showing it’s complexity and reality. In this film it’s simply an end of the world war zone of all war zones. There’s a fine line here, and Sly takes the stance showing the worst of the worst of Burma, in a worst case scenario. This would be more believable had the enemy not be partly faceless, and outrageously cruel. These guys are on par with the Nazis and some of the most brutal inhumane people in history. Are the Myanmar (Burmese) military that brutal? Perhaps at times they have been, but Sly doesn’t spend any time showing why, or how it got to be this screwed up. It just is. The film is also incredibly violent and brutal. If you’re not ready to see some amazingly realistic gore, you’re not going to make it through the film. However, if you can stomach it, the film is very real. War battles aren’t guys getting shot with no blood, and rolling over telling their buddies to say good-bye to mom. They are loud, harsh, terrifying, fast and bloody, and this film is as realistic as it gets in this regard, reflecting that ugliness and brutality. Get ready.

Rambo fans, or really fans of any action film should watch it. Even if you think you might like this film, you should watch it. If you can handle the brutal reality of it, you’ll find it’s an excellent addition to the series by Sly and you won’t be disappointed.

4 Stars Better than anticipated
Above par action movie. The bad guys are, as usual, really bad. The people to be saved, pure of heart. And John Rambo is pissed. Not a good thing for the bad guys. But the viewers will enjoy. A high gore content to please the video game crowd. An ending could be a sequel or did “Gran Torino” close that option.

3 Stars Not a successor
I’m still a little boggled by the reviewer who was disappointed that this movie wasn’t funny. The previous three entries in this franchise in my mind haven’t exactly been laugh riots, either.

Anyway, as an action movie, it’s pretty good. It does test my theory that a movie that is all action all the time actually gets kind of boring–the last half-hour of the film include 10 minutes of running and grunting, fifteen minutes of blowing ammo, intermixed with worried reaction shots.

The meat-pinata effects were tremendous, though, as usual, Hollywood still seems to think all blood is bright red. They perhaps overuse the effect, kind of like how Ridley Scott really had too much fun with the Arterial Bloodspray in _Kingdom of Heaven_ (which is really odd because it seems to this medievalist that they wore gorgets–armor on their necks–precisely to avoid the kind of thing Scott finds so cinematic). Still, it’s an impressive effect.

They use the new-fangled ’speed combat scenes up and jerk the camera around to make it all like, y’know, intense and stuff’ thing only rarely–in fact, so rarely that the few times they trot it out, it’s out of place.

Julie Benz delivers exactly the same kind of performance she gives as Dexter’s girlfriend Rita in the Showtime series–that is to say a woman who thinks that being a ’strong woman’ means irritating the poop out of a man until he does what she wants him to. Outside of horror movies, I have never wanted a character to die so badly. She’s dressed in ethereal, pure white, just in case you’re too dumb to remember you’re supposed to be on her side. But, I suppose Rambo fights for ideas, and not for charisma of the leading lady.

The reason I wasn’t crazy about this movie is that compared to the others, the plot was thin. Yeah, that stuff that lets the audience (and the actors) take a breather, that little valley in the rollercoaster that sets us up for the next hill? Not so much here. And what there is does keep the veneer of Freudian analysis, except, now, daddy-figure’s gone. I mean, just for a starter, at the beginning of the film, our Man Rambo is collecting *snakes*. Freudian? Naaaaaah. And all of the bad guys suffer from various sexual perversions (so we know they’re the bad guys, I suppose, in case the killing of women, children and dogs isn’t enough to clue us in), compared to sexless God of War Rambo.

If you want an action film without all that pesky plot and character development, this is a winner. If you wanted the same rich mix of story and action that the first three Rambo films had (and that they try to recapture using flashbacks which really just remind us what Stallone looks like without all the steroids), this will disappoint.

2001 A Space Odyssey Blu ray

2001 A Space Odyssey Blu ray

A space mission that could reveal man?s destiny is jeopardized by a malfunctioning shipboard computer. A dazzling journey that tops them all ? and showed the way for other effects-packed films that followed.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great
Classic sci-fi flick. Still holds up well today, although reality seems to be a little behind…

3 Stars 2 stars out of 4
The Bottom Line:

2001 has 40 minutes of a good movie surrounded by lots of Fantasia 2001 (extremely slow scenes of incredible beauty set to classical music) and scenes not intended to make much sense by admission of the authors–it’s worth watching in the sense that you’ll never see anything like it again, but not for any other reason.

5 Stars Relax, open up your mind, and you’ll be fine with this great film
After 900-plus other Amazon reviews have been filed, there’s not much more for me to add about this movie. I’ll just say that “2001: A Space Odyssey” is an astonishing film, and will especially resonate with those who respond to awe, wonder, and mystery in their movies. But it’s not all mystery and ultimate questions. The tense little section featuring the Hal 9000 computer delivers a jolt of mainstream movie conflict for those who like a little grounding with their metaphysics.

And, hey, I have to say I was proud of myself several years ago when seeing the film for the second or third time. Before I read it anywhere else, I noticed the strange occurrence of characters wishing other characters happy birthday a couple of times throughout the movie, which of course are cleverly-placed signposts and underscores to the ultimate birthday at film’s end. In fact, I’m not sure if I’ve ever read of anyone else pointing out those “happy birthday” moments as an early revelation of theme, though I’m sure someone has.

My DVD of “2001″ (which I pulled out the other day and watched on a whim) is a few years old and only features the film’s trailer as a special feature. It looks very good, though, and is worth picking up inexpensively if you aren’t worried about having the very latest DVD version of a particular film.

4 Stars Blu-Ray Very Good, But Not Outstanding
f your’re looking at this review, you mainly want an opinion of what the Blu-Ray version looks like, because by now you’ve seen the film….perhaps many times. It’s a unique movie which seems to have attained “classic” status.

So how does this Blu-Ray look? Well, I’m going to write something you might not have read elsewhere: the transfer is good, but overrated. I read review after review on other high-def websites and they just rave about the sharpness, so I bought the DVD. Well, I found about half the movie looking really sharp – mainly the outside shots of the space vehicles – and the other half so-so to somewhat fuzzy. In other words, it’s okay but nothing spectacular despite what you’ve heard.

If you doubt what I’m saying, rent a copy and watch the first 20 minutes. It isn’t until the space ship scenes start where you get the sharp pictures. From that point it varies from good to great.

Whether it’s Blu-Ray or a regular DVD, the visuals in this movie have always been fascinating and the soundtrack is astounding, too, especially on a decent surround system. You’ve never heard Strauss’ “Blue Danube” sound any better! Played during many of the slower parts of the film, the dramatic music enhances the feel of the immensity of space itself. Then, audibly, we hear these eerie chants whenever the mysterious monolith appears, whether its on earth, out in space, or in Jupiter. In other words, this film offers a fantastic assortment of visual and audio “trips” for the senses…..high-def or not.

Story-wise, it’s all about HAL, the computer, and two astronauts who are under his leadership. The spacemen – played by Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood – are good, but HAL steals the show. His “voice” is mesmerizing, a haunting monotone. In fact, Douglas Rain is the unsung “hero” of this movie, with his voice-work of “Hal.” .The more one sees this movie, the more cold and evil HAL becomes.

All in all, this is a movie I would think it would have be part of any movie fan’s collection of the memorable films of the 20th century……so why not have it in its best form?

5 Stars Tremendous Blu-Ray version
The beautiful picture and sound in this Blu-Ray edition are stunning. The movie has always been great, but to view it like this is almost like seeing it for the first time. It draws you in. You realize more than ever the brilliance behind the special effects. You feel like you’re in space. The great soundtrack is so much better, so much more powerful in this version than anything else on the market. It gives you chills. This a must buy for science fiction fans and Stanley Kubrick fans.

5 Stars Excellent Action Movie…Requires Imagination!
As I have said in previous reviews, this is a very entertaining movie that is not meant to be taken literally. We all know that “parts” of this movie are impossible. That is why it is in a movie. The point of watching a movie is to take a break from reality for a moment. If not, you should save your money and just walk outside. Shia Labeouf is a terrific actor in this movie (as he is in most movies). This is a great action movie for the open minded. If you think that you would take this movie for reality, you should probably go rent some history channel movies instead. I also think you could get a good deal on “Planet Earth” on Amazon. This is, in no way, meant to step on toes of those who enjoy the “true story” movies. I just do not think that movies should be bashed for having unrealistic aspects and ideas. Enjoy the movie…I know I did!

5 Stars Popcorn & drinks!!!!!!!
This is an AWESOME movie!!!! I rate this an Oscar worthy movie!!!

I think this is the second best of Shia’s films compared to Transformers. :) )

If anyone likes alot of modern day action, this is the movie for you!!!!

2 Stars One time flick
I saw this movie in the theater. It was very predictable and is something that I would not purchase for a DVD collection.

5 Stars INCREDIBLE SOUND
IF YOU HAVE A HOME THEATER OF GOOD QUALITY, THIS IS THE PICTURE TO SHOW TO YOUR FRIENDS. EARTHQUAKE EXPLOSIONS, BULLETS THAT COMES FROPM YOUR BACK SURROUND SPEAKERS TO THE FRONT OR FRON ONE SURROUND TO THE OTHER. I SET LIKE ALWAYS, USING EXACTLY THE AUDIO AUTO CALIBRATIONS PERFORMED BY THE AUDYSSEY SYSTEM, WITH THE VOLUME AND CROSSOVER FREQ. AUTOMATICALLY SET AND IS THE FIRST TIME I HAD SUCH EXPERIENCE. OTHER PICTURE WITH REALLY GOOD SOUND EFFECTS ON BD, IS PEARL HARBOR. HIGHLY RECOMENDED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE GOOD SOUND AND HAVE REALLY GOOD SUBWOOFERS.

3 Stars Different compared to TRANSFORMERS and INDIANA JONES
I’m normally a sensitive guy when it comes to thrillers like these. Some are fun. Some are okay.

“Eagle Eye” stars Shia Labeouf playing Jerry Shaw. Instead of dealing with unarmed transformed robots or archeologists, he and his buddy (played by Michelle Monaghan) deal with terrorists who are trying to find the secret identity to his life. Jerry Shaw and his new friend Rachel must stop the whole situation to save their own risks.

I really enjoyed “Eagle Eye.” I thought it was very thrilling and a lot of fun. Shia Labeouf is somewhat himself again as he was in “Transformers.” What I didn’t like about it was that the plot was a bit confusing and most of it didn’t make too much sense. However, I tried to have some fun and I managed to have as much fun as possible.

5 Stars Best of the series
I was not sure about this one at first. I was so disappointed in the 2nd movie of the series that I didn’t bother seeing this at the show. When I watched it at home, I was amazed at exactly how much I enjoyed it. The original movie I’ve seen, geez, I don’t know how many times. The second, as previously indicated, was a disappointment. However, everyone has more than redeemed themselves with this superb suspense thriller.

At the time this movie came out, I don’t recall hearing that much about it. I think it was released about the same time as the last (please God) Indiana Jones which was all anyone seemed to be able to talk about (it, in my opinion, was a dud–but I digress).

The fact that this third in the Mummy series takes place in China did not bother me as it appears to have some. The action is, literally, non stop and the movie did a terrific job in its recreation of time and place (1940s). Brandon Fraser is a great action hero and never fails to charm. The actress who plays his wife was every bit as good as Rachel Weitz. Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh round out this superb cast.

Bravo. Highly recommended.

2 Stars Mummy 3 not as good as 1 & 2
Mummy 3 is not as good as the first two. It is not as funny and you don’t like the characters as much.

1 Star Not on par with the other Mummy Movies
While I loved the first two Mummy movies, the plot for this third instalment seemed thrown together just to milk the franchise for more $$$. Rob Cohen took the directors chair from Stephen Sommers and it shows, big time. The special effects for the whole movie were as bad as they were for the end of the Mummy Returns. The Yetti looked totally CG and the signal they made of “field goal” made my laugh and shake my head at the same time. I wish they had written a more compelling and historically accurate story than this one as it was ALL action and had plot holes big enough for a tank to drive through. The suspense of the first Mummy movie is what made it so popular. Unfortunately, this third instalment had practically NONE. Overall it was very disappointing and definitely NOT worth purchasing.

3 Stars WHY DID YOU REPLACE EVY
Person playing EVY is different and cannot live up to the part. Made for a dull movie.

1 Star The worst movie that I have seen in years.
I am a big fan of the first two Mummy films. The second was a step down from the first, but both are great and I have seen them many times on dvd. I was very excited to see the latest in the series and made it to the theater on opening day. WOW, what a letdown. The casting was horrible for the “new” Evelyn and especially for the son. There was no chemistry between Rick and Evelyn. None.

The attempts at humor were so unfunny that it was painful. “The yakk yacked”. The action was predictable and poorly executed. The abominable snowmen were bad beyond belief.

I almost walked out of the theater after about 45 minutes, but I stuck it out for some sadistic reason.

I highly recommend that you don’t waste your time watching this junk, but if you must see it PLEASE rent it before you buy it.
