Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut Blu ray

Among the best directors of our time, Ridley Scott (Gladiator), contributes generously to this extraordinary Collector’s Edition of Kingdom of Heaven. Featuring his Director’s Cut of the film and hours of fascinating extras ? including a six-part tour from conception to completion of filmmaking ? this definitive set makes what Variety called a “genuinely spectacular” film even more so!

An epic marvel that’s as beautifully acted as it is visually awesome, Kingdom of Heaven stars Orlando Bloom as Balian, a Jerusalem blacksmith who has lost his family ? and his faith. But when his father (Liam Neeson) shows him his destiny, Balian vows to defend his country, and in the process, falls in love, becomes a formidable leader, and steps forever into history

5 Stars Great Movie
This is a great film with stunning visual effects and massive battles. This version provides great commentary and tons of bonus features. A good buy.

5 Stars WHERE IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IF NOT WITHIN THE CONSCIENCE OF A GOOD AND HONEST MAN?
Happily, I did not see this firm when it was first released, and was unaffected by a butchred commercial version. But then, except for STAR WARS, which I saw the day it opened at the Paramount, New York, I make it a point to avoid first release showings on most films. Here, my caution was rewarded and I was able to enjoy a rare experience undiluted and at my leisure. This is, as most reviews see it, a very good, very unusual film; something one expects from Ridley Scott. Myself, I say that’s only the beginning, and for more than a month I’ve been racking my brains to remember when I’ve seen anything as magnificent and as cinematically successful.

The viewing time? Too long? Not for me. I’m a confirmed Wagnerite, and my motto is “If its good, don’t stop.”

The cinematography? Absolutely on the highest level. If many of those battlefield shots were blown up and presented like Matthew Brady’s photographs of the killing fields of our Civil War, they would be hailed, heartily praised as exmples of the very best kind of that photography. In color and sweep and with the cast dressed — so incredibly well — in the armor of the medieval Islamic period, one has the impression of watching vast Delacroix historical paintings come to life. The photography is very often breath-taking. Affictionadoes of war or, call them ancient or antiwue battle movies with swords and spears and horses, will will be able to examine closely and to enjoy one panorama after anotehr from very long shots showing position and movement of troops over terrain, to mid-shots of charges — a couple plainly in homage to Olivier’s brilliant charge of the Knights at Agincourt — and close-ups of the carnage where one almost cringes for fear of being spattered with mud and blood.

The sets are sublime, and there are so many of them and of such wide variety, both inerior and exterior, and of widely differin scale, one’s mind is overwhelmed. To imagine the city of Jerusalem a century after the firsr Crusade, and then to present it in a numer of ariel views and in different kinds of light, is a feat of successfully convincing visualizaion unknown to me. Though I have seen photographs of the Crusader castles in Palestine, their architectural character has never been so clear. And neither has he city itself. City of Abraham, prince of Chaldea, this is one of only a very few cities that deserve to be called Holy,

What about religion? Well, both the Director and Scenarist are diffident about it, to say the least, for though it would be ridiculous to create an historical film about Crusading knights in and around Jerusalem without engaging in some way in the discussion or the depection of occult traditions (as well as disguised motivations) that swirl about everyone in the story, from the lowest to the highest, my personal impression is that although the film story is intensely concerned with personal morality and faith, it is accutely anti-clerical. In symbol it appears to this reviewer to be aseries of contrasts between characters symbolizing Roman Catholic practice and other characters symbolizing Potestant Chrisian practice. The Kingdom of Jerusalem is several times called a Nation of Conscience — which might fit in with what Luther had in mind when he thought and wrote about the christian practice of faith — bur it stands in stark contrast with the words and the inetntions of Innocent III, who intended that all humankind should be ruled by the Papacy, once conquered by the hordes of semi-barbarous marauders he sent East. But one must resist the urge to be sucked into chuch history. Nevertheless, it would probably be fair to say that the film is as profoundly spiritual and sincere as it is anti-religious, or heritical.

Did I mention that it is utterly engrossing? It is. Ane here one ought to think about sound. This master director knows how to utilize and synthesize both found sound, sound effects, and music with the spoken word in such a way that the ear is constantly refreshed, and the mind always stimulated — both by what one hears and what one almost hears or thinks one hears. Or even what one might heave heard. Its a kind of auditory confusion few directors can work well, but which he understands and uses like a virtuoso. For example: Immediately after I finished the movie I realized there were parts of it, details, that I didn’t understand, and thinking I hadn’t heard them, I was prompted to watch the film again (weeks later) with the volume adjusted and sitting closer to he speakers.. After the next viewing I realized I hadn’t missed much at all; that rather, I’d been tricked. This is how: when a dull person wants to get your attention, he shouts at you. When an intelligent one wants your attention, he lowers his voice, forcing you to pay closer attention to what he has to say. The wrier had given to the director a script allowing the director to tell the story mostly with pictures, which is what a good director does. One doesn’t go to the movies to listen to movies. That’s what Radio shows were for. By using the camera skillfully to show the performers in shifting angles as they move through the scenery not always talking, the director is able to give us more and better information than he could were he only to film conversations.

ORLANDO BLOOM: This actor is well cast in this story. He is different from the othr males that surround him; not only is he younger and though physically fit and muscular, he is somewhat smaller than they are. But, within the story it is established that he is yes, a blacksmith, (as well as a silversmith) but a man who can design and oversee the building of a new cathedral; he has already established hmself as one who builds fortifications and siege mchinery. Later, in Jerusalem, he demonstrates his unusual abilities by designing and constructing an irrigation system based on a knowledge of hydraulics. The young man is obviously a genius. So, it is not surprising that he designs and captains the defense of he city against he formidable might of Saladin. In addition, and preeminently, he has inernalized the knight’s code — which includes the command to “protect the weak” — and become a practicing christian. Bloom plays a “perfect Knight”, both an ideal and an idealized figure, and distinguishes himself as a Parcifal or Sir Percival of Arthurian legend. In every aspect, therefore, the choice of yet anoher heroic fighter, like Russell Crowe, or any other actor of the muscle-guy type, woulld have been wrong. The characte Bloom plays is formidably a warrior who fights with his mind and soul, and character. Orlando Bloom’s masculine beauty dramatizes the differences between his character and those of the other men who have been hardened and coarsened by intrigue, battle and murder.

The cast is wonderful; all very, very interesting-looking, and talented. Whoever cast the movie accepted quite a challenge, for most of the actors’ faces are interesting and have something to tell us about the story, from the stars to the extras. The faces of the Muslims were thrilling in their variety and beauty. It is daunting enough to imagine Saladin, but to imagine his sister is even more so. Both hero and heoine are beautiful and beautifully matched. One could go on and on about hem, but why? You have eyes.

In short, the film is in every respect an embarassment of riches. Most of us have seen and enjoyed his other films, and have begun to see what that peculiar gift is that he possesses which runs through all of them. His primary concerns appear to be about men; that is, about duty, strength of character, loyalty and personal inegrity. To my mind KINGDOM OF HEAVEN may well be Ridley Scott’s ultimate masterpiece. His identifying mark or motto is something like “A Scott Free Production,” which leads me to think he may have produced it, (or raised the money for the film) himself. If so, it must have been a staggering sum. But, the difference here is that in KINGDOM, every farthing of the multiples of millions of dollars and/or pounds is clearly visible. He made them all work double or tripple duty, and the result is all for our benefit.

Stop! It just dawned on me as I submited this review, that if you want to get an idea of how really and truly amazing this movie is, you should find a copy of De Mille’s THE CRUSADES, and watch them in sequence. Your choice.

1 Star No Audio Output From Blu-ray Version
Warning to those with older Receivers. This Blu-ray disk only has a DTS audio soundtrack in English. If you have a Receiver, like I do, that only decodes Dolby Digital 5.1, there is no audio output.

The rest of this review is for the clueless producers of this Blu-ray disk. Obviously they have learned nothing from the costly lost sales of the war with HD-DVD. People like me are not going to buy an expensive new Receiver just to play a particular movie on Blu-ray. Especially with six audio formats to cover and perhaps more to come! I will rent this movie on DVD and wait for the audio wars to end. Since Blu-ray has plenty of capacity, I do not see any reason why an English Dolby 5.1 soundtrack could not be included to ensure backwards compatibility. Particularly since Dolby 5.1 is already provided on this disk in other languages. From reading various blogs and reviews, I know I am not the only potential lost sale.

5 Stars Brilliant Historical Piece
Brilliant transfer to Blu Ray and fantastic audio. This is a must-have for any library.

3 Stars 2.5 stars out of 4
The Bottom Line:

As for as the theatrical version is concerned, Kingdom of Heaven is a big glorious mess of a movie–it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but it has its share of enjoyable scenes.

5 Stars Heart Warming Film For All To Enjoy
After playing a vampire and a spy succesfully , Tom Cruise took on the role of a sports agent and succeeded. Jerry Maguire is one of the movie that after watching you feel good inside. Cuba Gooding Jr. won a well desreved Oscar for his role as Rod Tidwell. Regina King and Renne Zwellger are good as the female leads and Johnathen Lipnicki steals almost every scene. I love this movie.

4 Stars You are hanging on by a very thin thread and I dig that about you!

1996’s acclaimed Jerry Maguire is the tale of a sports agent who stumbles upon his morals; therefore he finds himself jobless and fighting for his clients.

Jerry(Tom Cruise) finds himself with only one partner Dorothy Boyd(Renee Zellweger) in his attempts to build back his business; and only one client football player, Rod Tidwell(Cuba Gooding Jr.: in his oscar winning performance)

Jerry and Dorothy start to fall for each other, but how can they not let it get in the way of working together? Meanwhile Rod’s still waiting on Jerry for any kind of endorsement or contract and Jerry hasn’t quite been pulling through for him.

The rest of the story is not so imperative, it’s cliche, mostly predictable, but not terrible. Cuba is fantastic, Zellweger is adorable, and the child talents of Jonathan Lipnicki and Jeremy Suarez are amazing, and honestly they were my favorite part of the entire film. And Cruise, well… it was only a little painful, although I can’t blame him entirely, part of it’s the character, I know.

Personally I’d give the film 3 stars, but those kids crack me up and therefore deserve their own star.

It’s a fine film, I just don’t see what all the fuss is about. I prefer Sleepless in Seattle.

I will admit I still like to yell “SHOW ME THE MONEY!”

5 Stars Heart-Warming and Thoughtful
Jerry Maguire is one of my favorite movies, because it’s a modern movie with a heart and soul. Not very many modern comedy/drama/romances actually have one, but that is what this movie is all about: relationships. Although there are some cliched moments where it seems like the typical comedy/romance, the romance part actually explores issues about true love, intimacy, marriage, and commitment that most movies are afraid to, even though these are very timely issues. The questions of why we marry, why we are we afraid of commitment and intimacy, and what true love is are all explored by the film, as well as deeper questions about what is important in our lives, through the lives of Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise), Dorothy Boyd (Renee Zellweger), Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) and his family, and various other characters throughout the film. In addition to the excellent script however, the acting is also great. Cruise, Gooding, and Zellweger are all wonderful, and Bonnie Hunt shines as Laurel, Dorothy’s protective older sister. It’s not the best movie of all time, but is in my top 10, and I laugh and cry every time I see it. I recommend it highly.

1 Star Sappy annoying chick flick!
Just my personal opinion, but that’s what we’re supposed to offer here. What can I say? I was bored! Especially annoying was the character played by Renee Zellweiger, whose whiny demands on Jerry were awfully tiresome…..but she wins, of course, because it IS a chick flick! One scene was very amusing, though, if only because it was ridiculous: Jerry & his whiny girlfriend are in a restaurant with Ron & Marcee, (played by Cuba Gooding and Regina King). Marcee is hugely pregnant. Anyway, Ron & Marcee are making out with each other between mouthfuls of food, and cooing “Oh-baby-oh-baby” while Jerry & girlfriend look on, getting very uncomfortable. Girlfriend is obviously sulking, too, because SHE’D like to get the kind of attention from Jerry that Marcee’s getting. Suddenly, Marcee is yelling, “OH-BABY-OH-BABY” because she has gone into labor! Hysteria erupts. That was the stupidest part of the film. Well, I won’t go on, because it’s not worth it. Scenes like those are why I can’t stomach chick flicks. Too MUCH! I’ll take an action/adventure film or a war film any old day! And yes, I’m a woman! Just don’t like sloppy sentimental films, though, and this over-rated one IS, all right.

Live Free or Die Hard Blu ray

“The best of the best is back and better than ever” (WNYW-TV) in the latest installment of the pulse-pounding, thrill-a-minute Die Hard action films. New York City detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) delivers old-school justice to a new breed of terrorists when a massive computer attack on the U.S. infrastructure threatens to shut down the entire country over Independence Day weekend.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars live free or die hard
this is a very good action movie! i like it because there is almost no scean with out action. it is somewhat funny!

2 Stars Don’t buy Blu-Ray edition! NO UNRATED VERSION!
Boy did I get screwed! Having previously enjoyed this film as a rental from Netflix in standard DVD form, I took advantage of a special “buy 2 get one free” offer from Amazon on selected Blu-Ray titles. It never occurred to me that Fox would put LESS on the Blu-Ray than the standard DVD edition. SHAME ON YOU FOX!!!!!!!

3 Stars Awesome visuals with ridiculous story
I understand the good guy has to win. But when a villain mercilessly kills so many people without blinking and kills colleagues without an afterthought and then when it comes to killing the good guy, he has to prolongue it and give this whole “I’m going to kill you after I do this and this and this and I’m going to get pleasure out of watching you die, etc”, and this all comes after you’ve told countless henchmen to kill this person (which means a few minutes ago you didn’t mind somebody else doing a killing job that you wouldn’t see), I guess I’m just tired of the rehashed ridiculousness.

This villain assembles a team that has the entire United States of America by the balls, but then when it comes down to crunch time, it struggles with a cop that can’t be killed by hovering aircraft, crumbling freeway overpasses, or henchmen that managed to kill entire departments of security but can’t kill this one cop. This villain has everything planned beautifully, and then sends killer after killer, one by one just like the others, to kill this cop instead of just keeping the killers around him for protection, so when McClain does find him, he has to face several people with guns at once. Not that this would stop him, of course. But it’s a movie that tries to convince me that a brilliant villain would all of a sudden become very careless and that hired killers would turn into bumbling idiots.

The ridiculousness got to a point where I was actually rooting for the villain to win. There he is on the ground. You have a gun. Just shoot him.

But this film isn’t about believability. It’s about special effects and yippee ki-a mo fo. And if that’s your thing, than this movie’s awesome special affects doesn’t disappoint.

4 Stars Love action movies
Big fan of action movies. This movie deliver the action that it promise. Like the different spoken languages it comes in. Recommend for the action type and bruce willies fan.

5 Stars Bruce Willis
My hubbby’s favorite! Great price! Speedy delivery! Highly recommend! Thanks so much!

Transporter 2 Blu ray

Transporter 2 Blu ray

The best in the business is back in the game!

Jason Statham returns in his signature role as ex-Special Forces operative Frank Martin aka “The Transporter.” Now retired from his chosen profession of moving dangerous goods with no questions asked, he makes a living driving for a wealthy family in Miami, Florida. But when their young son is abducted, Frank must use his battle-tested combat skills to save the boy and thwart the kidnapper’s nefarious master plan.

Packed with high-octane car chases and high-flying martial arts action, Transporter 2 delivers nonstop excitement from beginning to end!

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Slick, impressive sequel
Not just more of the same, this cranks things up a few notches. It’s still great entertainment and has some fantastic fight scenes, as well as a few top car chases. Very good stuff.

4 Stars And The Action Continues
There was a little something missing from this one, but not enough to matter. It was that European flavor the original had. This one had more of something the first one did not-a good meaningful story. The choreographed fight scenes were perfect. There was even a throwback of the humorous oil fight scene from the first Transporter. Stratham never disappoints. While there was limited killings, after watching both this sequal and the original, I feel as though someone behind the scenes is determined to minimize the death count, substituting instead for numerous beaten and bruised bad guys. More interesting plot than the original. Again , this movie, like the first, is only for the action/karate fan. On that score it succeeds. This is why I gave it a -4-. I was a little disappointed with the climactic fight scene at th end. The antagonist was such a master, I expected more of a fight at the end. Placing this battle on an airplane going down was fresh, but limited the space for this big fight. Frank did not suffer enough of a beating, at the hands of the evil guy , to make us cheer for him to come back and kick his _____. Esaping from the sinking plane made up for it a little. I have owned both this and the original for a while now, but am getting around to looking at it months later. I will not make that mistake with another Stratham action flick. I will not make that mistake with Transporter 3 . Now when are they going to make Transporter 4?

4 Stars Great as always, but no DTS?
Well, I have no much to say. I’ve always liked the Transporter series. I am working my collection of the 3. However, Amazon says it has a DTS audio track – where is it? The DVD has not a single DTS track authored onto it. It doesn’t make it unplayable, but thats certainly one of the reasons for buying the movie…

3 Stars Very clever
I’ve seen the first film a couple of times and thought that whilst it was OK and Jason Statham can just about act it was nothing special. I really wanted to hate this, but came away liking it quite a lot. The filmmakers knew what they wanted here. Its brainless entertainment with tongue firmly in cheek, and they know it….

In fact I enjoyed it more than the first film. The villianess in bra and panties, endless ridiculous car chases, fight sequences that have to be seen to be believed. Its all done with style, panache and a “don’t care if this is not real” attitude that other films , that take themselves too seriously (i.e. Mission Impossible 3) could learn from.

So if you let it wash over you, you will have a entertaining hour and 3/4. Don’t think about it just enjoy!

1 Star Transporter 2 Movie Review from The Massie Twins
Like many sequels, Transporter 2 does not surpass its predecessor in quality or entertainment value, and actually manages to dumb-down the intelligence level and over-do the already obnoxiously exaggerated action. If you’ve heard of films that are “so bad they’re good,” this second outing in the series might just squeeze its way into that category. Transporter 2 isn’t the worst movie ever made, but it has to be pretty close.

Transporter 2 finds everyone’s favorite rule-abiding mover of delicate goods, Frank Martin (Jason Statham), filling in as a chauffeur for the son of a powerful government official (Matthew Modine). When young Jack (Hunter Clary) is kidnapped by a dangerous mercenary-for-hire (Alessandro Gassman), Frank must uncover the nefarious plot behind the crime, rescue the boy, and generally save the day in as outlandish a fashion as possible.

For every well-choreographed, creative action sequence, there are five utterly ridiculous ones that truly epitomize absurdity. An intense duel with a hulking henchman in the confined quarters of a boat make for some unique camerawork and effective combat, and a martial arts-infused fight with a fire hose steals the show for most original and entertaining action sequence. But a dreadfully dull Tarzan-esque battle with the main villainess, unrealistic bullet dodging, and an anti-climactic airplane crash quickly rescind this action vehicle’s license to thrill. And if the majority of these scenes weren’t disappointing enough, they’re accompanied by awful one-liners and some of the most pitiful special effects in recent history.

The first Transporter movie, while entertaining in its brainless adventure, was wholly unrealistic. The second one practically redefines the word. It’s difficult to come up with enough adjectives to describe just how detestably over-the-top every aspect of the film becomes, from the abhorrent, lingerie-wearing antagonist Lola (Kate Nauta) to the badgering use of music and skewed sense of plausibility. Frank retains his use of rules this time out, though the rules of realism have long since been lost. At least a healthy dose of car chases, massive property destruction, and martial arts mayhem keeps Transporter 2 barely watchable. Barely.

- Joel Massie

5 Stars good movie
I thought at first this was going to be a bad movie (gets off to a slow start) But after it got started it turned out to be a really good movie with a good story line and lots of action good movie!!!

4 Stars Great Escapist Film
Considering its origins, the plot and texture of “Hitman” are well-formed and strong. Timothy Olyphant, Olga Kurylenko and Dougray Scott handle their respective roles perfectly, and the pace of the action is excellent. While an action-adventure film, it also examines personal issues of self-examination among the characters.

My only question is, why does Amazon not list these actors in the header information for this video?

3 Stars Better Than Expected
5 stars? No. 3 stars are much more realistic. This movie wasn’t half bad. There were some parts that were a bit cliche and flat, but the lead character was a strong one and the international supporting cast was decent. The background music fit and the foreign scenery was interesting too! Overall, I’d say this was worth renting for a Saturday afternoon of mindless, violent, action-movie fun. I wouldn’t buy this for any more than $7 bucks, though…

Enjoy. :)

5 Stars Timothy Olyphant is a great actor
We really enjoyed this movie. Mr. Olyphant is a great actor. We enjoyed the movie “Live Free Die Hard.” But this movie was a joy to watch.

4 Stars Excellent
The flow of the movie was great. Good action thought the movie made me watch straight through. Though it was based off a video game and most movies like that end up being really horrible this on really shines.
